I grew up in California and moved to Oregon where I started college and a career in architecture. I eventually discovered that it was not the path for me, so I left and worked many types of jobs, even jobs supporting science research in Antarctica. As I began to search for my next career, I realized that my many years of modern dance performance had embedded a love for movement and body awareness that could be shared with others. I first got certified in teaching Pilates, then became a Physical Therapist Assistant, hoping to one day bring those skills together.
I initially worked in geriatric and skilled nursing settings, and it’s been a powerful reminder that activity throughout the lifespan can set you up for the quality of life you desire. I see physical therapy as a window into a new way of understanding one’s own body, as injury or dysfunction can often motivate someone to change or improve their movement and exercise patterns. I like to find creative ways to bring challenges to a therapy session and engage my patients in finding their capacity for change. I am now drawn to women’s health and pelvic floor therapy to help foster awareness and knowledge of this important part of the core musculature.
In my free time, you’ll find me teaching or taking Pilates in St. Paul, still discovering new parts of the Twin Cities and Minnesota, spending time with friends, or possibly finishing an incredibly tedious craft project or puzzle.
